Greetings from the Family Resource Center

As Readiness To Learn switched to working remotely, providing services over the summer, updating our website, and modifying our Back To School Program, our focus has been on maintaining the essence of the work we are doing: helping families remove barriers, and facilitating the creative efforts of our community to make sure every child feels ready to learn. Back To School was able to help 189 students have what they need to be prepared for the 20/21 school year, including basic school supplies, quality headphones, at-home organization kits and internet connections at home.

Holiday House is Readiness To Learn's annual program that allows parents in challenging financial situations to select toys their kids will appreciate. Once families qualify for this festive event, they can shop in our store, fill stockings with treasures, wrap presents, and enjoy holiday treats like cookies and soup in our transformed Family Resource Center (FRC). This annual tradition is put together over several weeks with our staff and countless volunteers, young and old, who work together to make sure Holiday House is FUN, and that parents have CHOICE about the gifts they give, and all people feel RESPECTED and SAFE. Holiday House 2019 served 389 children from 194 families.

In response to COVID-19, we have redesigned the Holiday House program, and for 2020 we're calling it Holiday Help! We've designed a program that we hope will still be fun, give parents a choice, and make people feel respected while honoring the rules of social distancing. Thank you to the South Whidbey Record for the recent article that covers the reinvention of this years program - click here to read the story.
